Cockroaches are considered to be one of the hardiest groups of animals and it is believed that they will outlast any other form of life. On the other hand, dinosaurs are the first that come to mind when we refer to extinction.
Over the past decades implant therapy became very popular and had a great impact providing us with ways to greatly enhance the way that we provide treatment for our edentulous patients.
Some of the dental schools recently removed denture prosthodontics from their curriculum, as there is a census that dentures will become obsolete, a dinosaur in Dentistry. However economic, length of treatment, biologic and current advances in CAD/CAM technology factors might prove otherwise. This might result in keeping the denture as the “cockroach” of Dentistry that will hang around for long time.
Dr. Evangelos Rossopoulos received his dental degree from the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki, Greece and his prosthodontic certificate at Eastman Dental Center in Rochester. He since maintains a full-time private practice.
