Occlusion in Implant Dentistry

Course Description

Program Overview: Occlusion and implant dentistry ♦ Occlusion is a vital component to the success of any restoration in the mouth. The general procedures used to restore implants may be very similar to those used during natural tooth restoration however, since the attachment apparatus of an implant to bone is different than the natural tooth connection (periodontal ligament), one must prepare occlusion in a very specific way. Not adhering to certain occlusal and restorative principles will shorten the clinical life expectancy of implant based restorations as well as the implants themselves. This two part program will discuss general occlusal concepts and how they apply to implants in the single tooth, fixed partial bridge and full arch reconstruction (both fixed and removable). Trouble shooting and problem solving methods that are occlusal related will be illustrated and discussed. The program also includes a handson participation component that will be used to illustrate trouble shooting methods for retrieving broken implant screws and healing abutments.
