Periodontal Plastic Surgery for Optimizing Aesthetics – What Every GP Should Know

User Ratings -

Course Description

In our aesthetically-oriented society, there are tremendous demands on clinicians to provide patients with a beautiful smile. Unsightly gingival recession around teeth and dental implants, soft tissue deficiencies of the alveolar ridge in a pontic site, excessive gingival display, malaligned teeth are just a few conditions which must be corrected to enhance esthetic outcomes. Fortunately, there are a number of periodontal surgical procedures which have evolved over the last 20 years that allow us to establish the foundation for an aesthetically pleasing smile. The term periodontal plastic surgery was recently established to broaden the scope of periodontal surgical treatment which was previously referred to as mucogingival surgery. The new term encompasses a much broader definition which more accurately reflects the current evolution in surgical techniques which enhances the function and esthetics of the periodontal and peri-implant tissues. This lecture will help you appreciate the scope, predictability, and indications for periodontal plastic surgery. A special emphasis will be placed on gingival grafting techniques to treat gingival recession and alveolar ridge deformities. Other topics to be covered include aesthetic crown lengthening, site preservation, and multidisciplinary combination procedures.
