Although the success rate of endodontics has been reported to be approximately 95%, there are many variables that must be taken into account to accurately predict treatment outcomes. It is the responsibility of the dentist to inform the patient of the potential risks and obstacles that may alter an ideal result. A valuable skill is to assess success rates prior to commencing root canal therapy. Patients today are well educated and as dentists, we must be able to properly diagnose, inform and treat our patients to the highest standard of care.
Outcome Predictors will attempt to answer the common question: Doctor, what is the chance of success? To answer this question, the presentation will rely on case studies, classic and current literature. It will address the keys to quickly determine the above question by examining the patient and the radiographs.
The objective of this presentation will be to cover:
• Common and valid predictors of success
• Success rates
• Past and current theories
• Assist the dentist in ascertaining a predictable outcome.
