Soft tissue grafting procedures are undertaken in a wide variety of situations to accomplish patient-specific aesthetic, functional and biologic goals. Achieving success with soft tissue grafting mandates sound case selection, understanding key biologic principles, and utilization of optimal surgical skills. The presentation will: 1) critically review the available literature; 2) focus on etiology, prevention, and successful case selection; 3) highlight fundamental surgical skills; and 4) review common errors in diagnosis and treatment (including their prevention and management). At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants will gain better appreciation of the challenges and opportunities of mucogingival therapy and will be able to apply the information in their clinical practice to improve patient outcomes. Course objectives: 1) To highlight biological and anatomic basis of soft tissue grafting, 2) To review the various soft tissue grafting procedures, 3) To emphasize optimal diagnosis, case selection, and surgical technique as key ingredients to success.
