Recessions are one of the most common clinical findings in a dental practice. Graft or Not to graft, refer or not to refer, is a constant battle in the mind of the clinician trying to make the appropriate clinical decision for addressing this mucogingival defect condition. Understanding the risk factors and the grafting material and technique and their indications and contraindications, helps the general practitioners in their thought process to select the appropriate time, case, and technique for this treatment modality.
Although donor grafts have been available to choose from, autogenous grafts are still being the gold standard in tissue grafting procedures. This presentation is for the clinicians who want to know more about the nature of each graft and what to expect in terms of clinical results. We will discuss different autogenous soft tissue graft techniques and how to utilize them properly to achieve more predictable results. In the hand on component we will practice some of this surgical techniques and skills.
