This update is essential for every hygienist and dentist maintaining patients with dental implants. As more and more patients are being treated with dental implants, there is some uncertainty regarding the appropriate maintenance protocols. This lecture will review an algorithm that is used on a daily basis in a periodontal office that can be used in any hygiene practice as an effective maintenance strategy as well as one to identify patients with potential implant problems. We will review causes for peri-implant osteitis as well as current treatment strategies. Yes, you do need to probe around an implant! We’ll tell you how and why.
