Implant-based care is highly predictable with high success and survival rates; however, mechanical and biological complications do occur. One question that often arises in clinical decision making with objectives to optimize survival and success of implants is whether to splint or not to splint implants supporting an implant-supported fixed partial dental prosthesis. This presentation will review these two options in depth, providing the pros and cons for each approach and presenting a systematic method for clinical decision making to assist in choosing one approach over the other.
· review of implications of splinting vs. not splinting implants (supporting implant-supported fixed partial dental prostheses) on prosthetic outcomes, implant survival and patient satisfaction
· discussion on advantages and disadvantages of each approach based on the proposed treatment
· comparison of biological and mechanical complications associated with each approach
