• Know what to expect in pre-restorative orthodontics • Know how to motivate your patient and explain the benefits • Know how to talk to your orthodontist and what to ask for in your cases • Know what can be done invisibly….without braces! Dentistry is evolving at a very rapid pace. As new materials and techniques are developed, gone are the days that orthodontics needs to be completed before the transition to restorations. In fact, implants can be placed before orthodontics are finished. Furthermore, the expectations of the cosmetically motivated patient and dentist are forever rising to higher levels. The cosmetic and restorative dentist is now faced with new challenges as our patients come to expect the highest levels of cosmetics and durability. A patient, who has been living with a dysfunctional bite for many years, will experience deterioration of the teeth and supporting tissues. Often the restoration of a deteriorated dentition presents challenges that require the restorative dentist to compromise the restorations, and sometimes further reduce teeth and remove bone or gum tissue unnecessarily. These compromises and challenges lead to restorations that are less than ideal. The experience and relationship of the patient and dentist has the potential to be negative. Pre-Restorative Orthodontics aims to restore the foundation of the dentition so that the restorative-cosmetic dentist can practice ideal dentistry. This enhances the cosmetic, functional integrity and longevity of the result for the patient. The deteriorated dentition and lack of adequate teeth or supporting tissues can make the orthodontics more challenging or seem impossible. Orthodontic techniques have evolved, and now more than ever before, our patients can expect and receive an invisible orthodontic experience with excellent results. With new orthodontic techniques now available, we can promise our patients a cosmetic and effective orthodontic experience. The dentistry is ideal and predictable; the experience for the dentist, orthodontist and patient is more pleasurable. With a little organization, it is easy for the team to achieve efficient and successful results. Through the use of clinical slides and cases treated in private practice, the presentation will demonstrate the following: Pre-Restorative & Pre-Prosthetic Orthodontics Restoring Worn Teeth without Further Reduction of Tooth Height Alignment of Gingival and Bone Anatomy Eliminating the Dark Triangular Spaces Increasing Maxillary Tooth Exposure on Smile Aligning the Occlusal Plane with the Lips Rehabilitating the Collapsed Bite Using Implants and Temporary Anchorage Devices for orthodontic anchorage. Cosmetic Orthodontics Invisalign Lingual Orthodontics Clear Braces Creative Thinking False Teeth Communicating the Plan Pre-Restorative Setup: A Diagnostic and Communication Tool Restorations are Retention: Orthodontic Finish Line is Restorative Start Line with No Stop Sign The goal of Pre-Restorative orthodontics is to create a foundation where the restorative dentist can then build a beautiful and functional smile without compromise. This presentation will clearly demonstrate those specialized tooth movements that can be planned into cosmetic orthodontic treatment plans, to make the final experience more pleasurable for the restorative dentist, orthodontist, and ultimately and primarily for the patient.
